Field Trips

Picture

Every year the kindergarten classes will go on at least one and maybe 2 field trips.  We will send home a letter telling parents what we are doing, where we will be going, and how much it will cost (this includes the bus and admission).  Attached to the letter will be a permission slip that must be filled in and returned the teacher by the given date.  This permission slip gives the school permission to take your child off school grounds to the specific placed named.  At the bottom of this paper is a medical permission that also needs to be filled in.  If it is not received, we are not allowed to take your child on the field trip.

We will be gone during lunch time so a traveling lunch is needed.  You will be offered the choice of buying a boxed lunch from the school or sending a lunch from home.  The lunches are to come in plastic bags with a drink.  No lunchboxes, thermoses, glass bottles, or backpacks will be taken.  Since I am the peanut free room I request no peanut butter sandwiches or peanut containing snacks be taken along for safety reasons.

Chaperones will be needed for the trips and you will need to have a CORI done before you can go.  NO siblings of any age are allowed to come on the field trip.   If you are interested and available you will need to send in a note as soon as you receive the field trip notice.  We are limited as to the number of chaperones by the bus size.  Normally, 4 to 5 chaperones are chosen for the 1st field trip.  If we get to go on the second, I can take more, but they will need to travel in their own car (car pooling is encouraged and set up).

We leave the school in the morning and return in time for the children to go home on the bus.  If the forecast is for bad weather, we will cancel the field trip the day before and reschedule it for another time.

*Children need to come dressed appropriately for the weather and wear closed shoes (sneakers) for comfort.*

Apple Picking

Applecrest Farms in Hampton, New Hampshire

Our first field trip is to go apple picking in late September/early October.  This comes at the end of our apple science unit to reinforce what they have learned.  At the farm the children will be given a guided tour and shown how each part works to get the apples to the store (including the bees!).  They get to ride on a hay wagon to the orchard where they will pick their own apples to take home!

Animals

York’s Wild Kingdom in York, Maine

Our last field trip of the year is to go to the zoo.  We learn about all the different kinds of animals in the animal world in May and June.  This trip allows us to experience seeing animals up close and personal.  Photos and pictures in books just can’t compare to seeing the real thing!
